IHS-WA.net  website

G'day, welcome to my Brethos website.

This site has sprung out of the simple need for people, churched and non-churched, to be able to find relevant and timely information on the Christian Brethren (CB) churches here in Western Australia. I have been waiting many years for someone to do an 'official' WA CB website, but sadly it has not eventuated. If it does, I would probably close this site down if no longer needed. It is widely recognised that people are using the internet as their main source for info today, and are indeed unimpressed that a group or business would not have an effective presence on the net. So... welcome to my humble offering!

I know the Brethren are a suspicious mob and rightly so, taking the stance of the Berean church described in Acts 17:11, "These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so."  We all need to be sure that people are who they say they are, and indeed, that what they are saying is the truth. Even trusted preachers need to be brought to account if they stray from the plain truth of God's Word. So it falls to me to introduce myself so you can see where it is that I am coming from in the production of this website. I take comfort that even Paul had to explain himself on more than one occasion. I will aim to keep it brief. Just the facts...

I have created and managed several websites for various church and para-church groups over recent years, plus a few of my own, namely:

Ruma Abedona Hospice in India – www.rumahospice.org.in – my website for them has been superseded.

Camp Wattle Grove Keswick  www.campwattlegrove.com.au – no current involvement.

Rivervale Church of Christ  www.rivcc.org.au – no current involvement.

FuelUp  www.fuelup.rivcc.org.au – no current involvement.

Lynwood Christian Church www.lynwoodchristianchurch.org.au – current.

My photo hobby websitewww.spiritland.net – current.

My business website www.spiritland.com.au – current.

...and this website www.ihs-wa.net – current.

In time I would like to see established a committee to manage and developed this site, with the view of handing it over completely to come under the control of the Combined Elders Meeting of WA. But I feel the need to establish the site first before making any official approach, so I have this as a long-term option for this website at the moment. God willing!

Stay tuned for further updates.

Cheers and blessings, Max.

The 'Men's Conference' re-established

The church today is sadly lacking in strong mature christian men mentoring other men for leadership in the church and in their families. How is this going to happen if there is not the opportunity, the vehicle to enable the more experienced male leaders in the churches to share their knowledge and experience with those newer to leadership roles. And perhaps those who have served faithfully over many years need to be encouraged, strengthened and revitalised in their spirit by the fresh vision and excitement of the next generation of active church leaders. Plus as individual men we can share and network through such events as Men's Conferences. So my suggestion is:

  1. Make the Men's Conference a ONE DAY event on a Saturday, say from 9am - 4.30pm. This would mean less time commitment and less hassle concerning meals and accommodation, and less cost. The program could be:  Session 1, 9.00am - 10.30am;  Morning TeaSession 2, 10.45am - 12.15pm; LunchSession 3, 1.00pm - 2.30pm;  Afternoon TeaSession 4 Think-Tank, 2.45pm - 3.30pm;  Grab a CuppaSession 5 Think-Tank review, 3.40pm - 4.10pm;  Wrap-up and Prayer Time to 4.30pm finish;  Stay and Network till 5.00pm. An alternative could be to have an evening meal together and one session after dinner.

  2. Have it in the metro area rather than down at Baldivis. This would make it that much easier for the majority of attendees and give a wide choice in venues.

  3. Have it at a venue that has been chosen to show what is happening on the leading edge of church planting or renovation. This could be of any christian denomination happy to share their vision from the Lord for their local community. The first session of the day could be a tour of the facility and talk on the physical planning, construction and financing of the new project. The second session could be the spiritual journey they took that lead them to this point in time for them.

  4. The third session could be a general address from scripture directed at men. The speaker could be from any christian denomination who has a heart for seeing men fulfil their God-appointed roles.

  5. Fourth session could take the form of think-tank groups looking at subjects like, "Where should the next Assembly be built and how is it going to happen?", or "Should we embark on a joint program of renovating our existing assembly buildings and how could it happen?". The fifth session could be a panel from the Combined Elders Meeting giving their reaction to what was brought forward from the think-tank groups.

  6. Then the MC could do a wrap-up and then we break into small groups to pray it all home.

  7. The event should be promoted enthusiastically among the Assemblies and have an effective brochure to support it. The steering committee should be prepared to do deputation and/or promotion via telephone for the success of the event.
